Madeleine L'Engle Remembered...

In case you hadn't heard, Madeleine L'Engle, beloved author of the 1963 Newbery winner A Wrinkle in Time and dozens of other tales, died yesterday at the age of 88. Here's a story about her in the New York Times.

Dear Alice,
Thanks for posting the information about Madeleine L'Engle on September 7. I'm currently travelling abroad, and hadn't heard the news till I was looking at your BLOG today. I had just been remembering her very vividly a few weeks ago, thinking about how marvellous her children's books were. I had the good fortune to receive several handwritten letters from her about 26 years ago, when I wrote her. She encouraged me to continue with my writing (I was then a teenager) and wrote me very compassionately about the loss of my father, which I had mentioned to her in a letter.
She was and is a marvellous visionary writer.
Thanks again for mentioning her.
Barbara
