Bob Dylan--Picture Book Author?...

I'm not much of a Bob Dylan fan. While I dig some of his lyrics quite a bit, the sound of his voice just bugs me. It's nails on a chalkboard through the speakers.

My husband talked me into seeing the critically acclaimed based-on-Bob-Dylan movie I'm Not There which I found slightly painful. Said husband also religiously listens to Bob Dylan's Theme Time Radio Hour on XM Radio. A few weeks ago, he anounced, "Today Bob Dylan shared his meatball recipe!" I've tried to listen to the show, but only lasted a few minutes because I really couldn't understand a word Bob Dylan was saying.

I just read an article in the Sunday New York Times about Bob Dylan winning a Pulitzer Prize for “profound impact on popular music and American culture, marked by lyrical compositions of extraordinary poetic power.” Hmmm.

Now I see in today's Publishers Lunch that Simon & Schuster is publishing a picture book based on Bob Dylan's 1974 song "Forever Young." A Bob Dylan picture book! Maybe next he'll delve into the fashion world a la Jerry Garcia's neckties or Carlos Santana's shoes.

I guess Bob Dylan is the new Elvis--he's everywhere.

I'm with your husband on this one, and lay prostrate at the altar of Bob Dylan. Meatballs and picture books? Makes me love him that much more (if that is possible)!

Don't forget -- Jerry Garcia did several book/ cassette tape sets. I use both of them in storytimes and get a kick out of surprising the parents when I tell them who is singing the words to this book.

What will you wear, Jenny Jenkins? [audiocassette/book] / arranged and performed by Jerry Garcia and David Grisman ;

There ain't no bugs on me [audiocassette/book] / arranged and performed by Jerry Garcia and David Grisman ; (no, it does not feature that cute dog in the dog-at-camp commercial)

Alice, I think I'm with your husband on this one. But perhaps I can change your mind.

I'd like to introduce you to my new novel, BLOOD ON THE TRACKS, which I think you'd enjoy (your husband will, anyway).

It's a murder-mystery. But not just any rock superstar is knocking on heaven's door. The murdered rock legend is none other than Bob Dorian, an enigmatic, obtuse, inscrutable, well, you get the picture...

Suspects? Tons of them. The only problem is they're all characters in Bob's songs.

You can get a copy on Amazon.com or go "behind the tracks" at www.bloodonthetracksnovel.com to learn more about the book.

Oh, good! Someone else who finds the hype around Bob Dylan totally incomprehensible. Nails on the blackboard indeed, with a side-order of droning mosquito.

Only time I like Bob Dylan is when someone else is singing his songs. They sound a lot better and they don't insist on singing every single verse of the song as he wrote it.
